Rocky Mount sits in the Carolina Coastal Plain, where growing conditions are more aggressive than in the Triangle. Longer growing seasons, sandy soils that hold moisture, and warm humid summers mean invasive plants establish faster and spread further here than further inland.

Properties that flooded and recovered years ago often have significant invasive growth in areas that were most affected, particularly along low-lying edges.
